We have thus come to understand that emotional interactions are the foundation not only of cognition but of most of a child’s intellectual abilities, including his creativity and abstract thinking skills.” The Irreducible Needs of Children

Our Curriculum

Curriculum Statement: Our curriculum is nature based, following an organic flow within a softly structured framework. In order to allow for the children’s innate sense of learning to flourish, there will be a healthy balance of leading and being led, structure and freedom, following the natural rhythm of nature.

Our curriculum is rooted in nature, incorporating the gifts of the four elements and the four seasons, as the foundation for our teaching. Mother Earth serves as one of our primary instructors and we are outside every day. We love to garden and have the children planting and working in our garden during the season.  We will not have any technology present in the School Rooms.

Each day starts with an opening circle and progresses with interactive and imaginative play. Our program emphasizes social skills, emotional awareness, kindness, and self-esteem. We offer age-appropriate art activities and develop fine motor skills through various handwork projects. Our teaching method involves modeling and inviting children to participate in activities alongside the teacher, whether it's art or chores. This approach seamlessly integrates daily life and social skills, fostering an appreciation for everyday tasks. Recognizing the importance of somatic movement, we provide a movement and sound-focused experience for all children once a week.

We integrate 20-minute teacher-led sessions throughout the day, including singing, storytelling, and art activities. During these sessions, the teacher will present a song, activity, or interactive story and guide the children through the corresponding movements. We believe children at this age need to engage with their peers while also benefiting from the attentive guidance of their teacher.

We utilize the philosophies of Dr. Terry Brazelton and Dr. Stanley Greenspan who co-authored a book called “The Irreducible Needs of Children. We also utilize the philosophy of Dr. Gabor Mate who wrote the book called “Scattered Minds”.
